Donna Grayson's Abstracts

Abstracts, Fractals and Patterns from Los Angeles, California

Mandelbrot Gallery

Welcome to the Mandelbrot Gallery on Zazzle. I've written some software for drawing Mandelbrot and Julia Set fractals, and then I've had fun making some images with it. This Gallery allows you to view and buy prints or gifts containing images from my Gallery. Enjoy browsing!

Remember - each image you see is available as any type of product (t-shirt, mousepad, etc.). You can add whatever options you like, too: Mug style, picture frame, etc.

Fractals make abstract art, of a kind that is beautiful by definition. Mathematics is usually perceived as producing images that are ugly to look at, because of the built-in predictability which our eye finds boring. Fractals spring from chaos theory, which uses regular equations to produce objects that are, by definition, unpredictable. Hence beautiful mathematics.

Bragova Shop

Describes themself as: Besides playing with fractals, I work on music with my husband, composer John Mitchell, and maintain our website, abm-enterprises.net (the abm stands for Adolf, Benjamin and Matthew, three of our cats). Free 800 x 600 pixel versions of my fractals for desktop wallpaper are at abm-enterprises.net/wallpaper.html.

My approach to fractals is related to an interest in photography--I've done a lot of it, some professionally. With fractals as with photos, I choose what to look at, study the light and shadows, manipulate the colors--but the material has its own structure. It's divine geometry.

I was born in the US, Washington State, but have traveled and lived in other countries. Educated at Stanford and UCLA (Romance languages and linguistics).
